White Wallpaper

11 Creative Ways To Use White Wallpaper

When you think of wallpaper, you probably think of brightly colored patterns plastered over the walls. However, have you ever thought about what you could do with white wallpaper? It can be so much more than just a wall covering from floor to ceiling.

Wallpaper sticks to virtually anything, and that means you can do much more with it than you might imagine. Think beyond the walls, and you will find fun ways to turn seemingly blank wallpaper into an exciting part of your decor. Start by considering these 11 creative ways to use it.

1.  Opt for White Wallpaper With a Pattern

A plain-color wallpaper doesn't have to be stark or even flat. Choose something with a pattern or texture to change up the look. Herringbone is a subtle style that looks great behind furniture with colorful accents. A simple striped pattern makes it a bit more special, or a ridged white wallpaper can add dimension to a room without washing out the light.

2. Use Wallpaper for a Kitchen Backsplash

Furthering the idea of using white wallpaper with a pattern or texture, a white tile wallpaper print is a more affordable alternative to white tile on the kitchen backdrop. If you're considering a bold wall color throughout the room, a white backsplash is a great way to make that color pop. The same is true whether you have a concrete countertop or bold granite. A white, delicately patterned backsplash will work well above either.

3. Use White Wallpaper as the Backdrop for a Gallery Wall

Gallery walls are a trendy, creative way to express your interests and display your favorite family photos. With a solid white background, you can shift the focal point to the frames. Whether you prefer a streamlined look with frames in the same shape and color or a more eclectic feel with varying sizes and styles, the backdrop should accent the photos rather than take away from them.

4. Line the Back of the Kitchen Cabinets

Open cabinets are a trendy and inexpensive way to create dimension in your kitchen decor. Clean up the look by using white wallpaper to line the back of the shelves. It allows you to display your dishes more clearly and will tie in all the details of the display items. This can be a more tedious or tricky task, so reach out to a professional interior designer to help you bring your item to life.

5. Wallpaper Your Ceiling

Looking for a way to brighten up a room with minimal lighting or cover up unsightly spots on the ceiling? Wallpapering the ceiling is not a new concept, if not a common one, either. A white ceiling adds light to the room and creates a clean look. If you have beams, place the wallpaper between them to draw more attention to the ceiling and the beams.

6. Create an Accent Wall of White Wallpaper

Do you have a beautiful piece of furniture that gets lost in the wall color or a room that needs slightly more light? Throw in an accent wall covered in white to:

  • Provide a backdrop for those staple furniture pieces you want to keep on display

  • Reflect light without taking away all of the color or design from the room's walls

  • Act as an open space to hang your most loved pieces of art

Choose a wall opposite the windows providing the most natural lighting to create a bigger feeling in the room.

7. Cut Out Shapes To Place on the Wall

Children's rooms are a great place to go a little wild with wallpaper. The same is true for a small nook or a half bath. If you can't quite find the wallpaper you want, create it yourself. Lay a foundation with different wallpaper or a paint color you love and cut out shapes of the white wallpaper to create a design. You can even use paintable wallpaper if you want to make the design different colors.

8. Place White Wallpaper on the Front of Each Step

In multi-story homes, the stairs are often the most overlooked area. However, a simple, solid white can change the appearance and give your stairs a touch of style. Simply wallpaper the front of each step to create a unique look. You can even use different patterns or textures if you want to keep it clean but eclectic.

9. Spruce Up Old Furniture With a Touch of White Wallpaper

There is virtually no end to the possible ways you can use white wallpaper to transform furniture. For example:

  • Add it to the doors of a cabinet or armoire to create a color-blocking look.

  • Cover the top of a damaged accent table to make it beautiful again.

  • Turn a simple door into something special.

Just remember to prepare the furniture before applying.

10. Place It Over Worn Hardware

Hardware can be a great way to change the look of a room. For example, in the kitchen or bathroom, updating the hardware can make the cabinets look entirely different. Rather than purchasing all new knobs, you can take scraps of white wallpaper and cover the old ones. This works on nearly any style or color cabinet and offers an affordable solution to the problem while eliminating waste. You can even use wallpaper on light switches and outlet covers to hide flaws.

11. Cover Frames To Create Uniform Color

Going back to the idea of a gallery wall, you can reverse the design plan and use a bold color or pattern on the wall. Then, create uniformity with the frames by covering them with white wallpaper. Trying to find varying styles and sizes of frames in white can be time-consuming and often unfruitful. By papering them in white yourself, you can use any frame you like and still maintain uniformity.

If you tap into your creative side, there is so much you can do with wallpaper. You're not limited to just the walls, and white wallpaper doesn't have to signify the absence of design. With just a simple piece of sticky paper, you can transform the look of a room and be as traditional or eclectic as you like.
